I heard that this was getting an anime adaptation, and since I'm a stickler for that Romeo & Juliet trope where enemies fall in love, I decided to give this a read. And it properly delivered what was expected. A nice wholesome slice of life romcom manga between an evil general and a struggling magical girl who are crushing and care about each other.
This series has a lot of potential, but it's unfortunate that the mangaka had passed away. One of the worst feelings as a manga reader when you're reading a very great manga only to have it cancelled because its mangaka passed away... May Fujiwara Cocoa rest in peace.
I'm hoping that the anime gives this series justice. With its 4-koma format and only having 20 chapters, it's hard for me to imagine the anime being able to adapt everything and reach 11-12 episodes in a way that the story flows properly. But I could be proven wrong, and I hope I'm proven wrong. Perhaps the anime will give this series a proper ending instead of leaving things on a cliffhanger.
8-9/10; A pretty great series that could've been better if not for Cocoa's passing. May she rest in peace.
