At this point I'm convinced that the authors of Kaya-chan, Mieruko-chan & Dark Gathering had a drink together and decided to compete for who can escalate things to craziest extend.
I will add I Want to Hold Aono-kun to the list.. it's also an intense horror and solid story, although shoujo-esque art mislead me during the first chapters.

Personally I rank it higher than Mieruko, havent read dark gathering yet.

I love "I want to Hold Aono-kun so Badly I Could Die" so much, I think it's my number 1 horror manga. The romance (as horrifying as it is sometimes) is the cherry on top - nothing else I've read has an actual horror-romance as it does. That reminds me, I've been wanting to re-read it since I forgot many things at this point before continuing to the latest volume. To anyone who reads this: please "I want to Hold Aono-kun so Badly I Could Die", you won't regret it.

I think you'd love Dark Gathering. Feel free to read it or watch the anime adaptation airing now (the anime is decent)!

Anyway, back to this manga...yet another creepy chapter, the stakes just keep getting higher. The trope of having 2 identical beings trying to steer you from the other is nothing new, but it sends shivers down my spine every time.

Despite being a God-level psychic, Kaya is still only a kindergartner. Poor child is too young for these mimic mind games.

I like how skeeved the spectre was over a grown man calling some little girl sama lmao
I actually think that slip-up and badly impersonating Kaya's father might have been done on purpose by the specter as a trap to lower their guards. I ask how is it as a random passerby spirit, would it have knowledge of Kaya's Dad and Mob both whom it hasn't seen before? I can only think once it set it's sights on Kaya for noticing it, the spirit read her and her Aunt's memories and formulated the plan while stalking them home. Let them think they can judge who's real or not from obvious inconsistencies and fake a surprised reaction when discovered. Then, when Kaya was by herself initiate the true deception to get a vulnerable target to open up for it. And it worked.

Unfortunately, the penalty for that was a Bonking back into the Abyss.

If what grandma said is true, that "Mirai gives birth to that [thing] and died". Then it's possible that that [thing] is level 4 Risk or higher, because it can hold conversation with Chie sensei and the husband, while all Kaya hear is $%@#! . Maybe Kaya's mother really did die or was "consumed" by that [thing]. And now it plans to gives birth to reborn itself in form of a child?

At least this is my theory for now

Damn, the "the other me is a fake" was devilish :qq:

Interesting that her exorcism face isn't just from our point of view. So Kaya's a reincarnation, maybe?

This further seems to prove my theory on Kaya not being a psychic, but her powers coming from being an entity or being part entity. The fact that Kaya just resorts to beating them down with violence, while the other psychics we've seen so far seems to utilize spiritual power. Kaya has yet to show any sort of ability to use spiritual powers, she just straight up beats the entities down, and every single time when she does beat them down, she herself looks like an entity while doing so. I think the title of this manga is also a hint towards the fact that Kaya is in fact an entity or part entity, she very much has the monster in her as well despite that she herself seems to not want to be seen as a monster by others.

do not look at them else they will follow you
Guess that explains why she's a magnet for this crap. She looks but only wipes them out if theyre a threat.
