Didn’t Kaya’s mom kind of disowned her own family, so surely she doesn’t give a damn about her mom being dead catching stray bullet from curse she brought.

Idk how much the dad knows about the psychic stuff but it was more like "Finds out the grandmother died, sister/auntie freaks out and tries to find out what happened, so she's unable to pick up kaya after school which she was going to do instead of the dad" or so, but not like the office/job would've known either but you should be able to say "I need a day off for personal reasons" unless he's in the middle of some huge project/deadline but i'd hope some places would be accommodating for parents, it must be a nightmare working as a single parent tho without a reliable babysitter or school time/timing your schedule around student hours as opposed to making your kid wait til like 9 pm for dinner or so versus them being independent enough to feed themselves after school and not burn the house down but that's a whole diff convo
