Sorta wonder how much thought the author put into the whole, "everyone calling MC useless all the time," thing.
Feel like it could go two ways:
1. They did and people like the chancellor and Bark are jerks who are purposefully undermining MC. This would make a lot of sense: MC's parents died early and his brother is sickly, so if everyone thinks MC is useless it'll be easier to argue that his brother should rely on people like the chancellor to help him rule.
2. They didn't and Bark and the chancellor are meant to be like, redeemable characters MC will eventually win over. If this is the case they messed up big time because Bark is apparently a knight/diplomat who thinks it's acceptable to continually badmouth the political figure he's escorting in front of the people they're visiting. A dude like that is completely unworthy of respect in my book.
