oh my god when i read the comments i thought this was something HORRIBLE like it must've been so bad! it didn't look like that from the cover and it had an over-8 star rating so i thought what? is this thing??

I read this because I thought people were overreacting about how poorly MC is treated, and that it is actually very wholesome.
I mean, it IS wholesome but man the husband is such a masochist and a pushover, and the wife is so distant when it comes to intimacy.
Headcanon: Husband thinks kids are conceived through kissing, none of the kids are his (even the one currently in the womb) because wife has a lover (unbeknownst to husband who spends 99% of his time at work; also explains why she doesn't get intimate with him) and she is only using MC as a babysitter and money maker.

Looked up chapter 1, chapter 20 and skimmed through another many chapters (from 2 to 7) and then from 14 to 20.
It is not wholesome for someone as old as me. I think, i plan, i rationalize. My prefrontal cortex has developed and with it i cannot see this marriage surviving long-term in real life.
Wife has a child from another man - Socially dead in Japan.
What's normal statistically? Single parents getting together.
In her case a woman like her needs to kiss the feet of her husband (not literally). Instead we see quite a toxic dynamic of constant ridicule and disrespect.
It's wrong to expect single parents to be forever grateful, not because it's bad to want this but because humans are just like that. For what we should feel forever grateful we eventually make it a minimum baseline (psychological mechanism to save us from debt). Her reaction is normal, her personality though is shitty.
Why are there so many people don't like it?
- Because they are rational adults
- Because they experienced it
- Because they know statistics and psychology
It's hard to see comedy in something that you know is set up to fail.
Attitude to the husband is something we could see towards husbands who cheat on their wifes.
P.S. My personal 5cents. Both of "his" children have black hair while their hair differs. Her first child has HER hair. He has light brown or brown hair, their children have black hair.

Some people are overreacting, but I personally didn't enjoy this manga. I've been reading a bunch of romance and manga about married couples, and this is prob the first wife I just got annoyed with. For the majority of the story, the wife doesn't try and even avoids intimacy with her husband, and yet when he becomes super super busy with work, she gets annoyed and even gets upset that he doesn't show her love like he usually does. Even though like I said she avoids it for most of the story.

To anyone reading this before starting or finishing this manga, let me give you an advice. If you came for a wholesome manga, u ain't in the right place. The wife is such a bad partner and she's so lucky this guy has 0 self love. If you ain't simping for the appareance of the woman, man this is going to get on your nerves real quick
