In most manga dealing with drug trade, gangs, and issues, I tend to think it's just the mangaka using popular knowledge or having done some cursory research before writing the scripts, the rest being all imagination and inspiration from American movies and TV shows, but what comes to this manga, the author must have plenty of personal experience.
