Part of the problem is that Shin and the rest are so far out of the norm that it's hard to gauge how difficult their work is. It's like using a scale of 1-10 but then having to interpret what a "40" is supposed to mean.
The rumors (whether true or false) aren't exactly helping much, especially given that they were almost all defeated that one time (I forget which kingdom it was) where they were split up and crushed by the elite scout squad.

It's like when Gordon Ramsay does a demonstration on Masterchef:
"Gordon makes it so easy and smooth, but I know at the back of my head that this is going to be so hard..."

A 1 or 2 might understand that a 10 is "amazing", but a 5 or 6 would understand WHY that's amazing or how HARD it is to get a 10.

It would have been more entertaining if we got to watch the guy fall into despair rather than watch him get killed so fast like that

Of course, there's also the fact that this situation regarding the devils is completely unprecedented.
As far as the novels go, there's only been one precedent of a devil (demonized human) that survived the process and maybe retained enough cognitive function to use magic.
Humanity is facing a new threat, and the only information the normal peeps have is that they're dangerous and a bunch of flying kids can wipe out hoards of them.

Humans are REALLY bad at recognizing and gauging how bad or dangerous something is, and we're worse at dealing with such threats. Our greatest learning device, PAIN, requires us to put ourselves in danger to learn.

Here in real life, we didn't really understand how bad the coronavirus was until it broke quarantines, thousands started to die, and we all got trapped in our own houses.

@PhoenixStriker5251 Problem is that it took humanity's best magicians to beat one devil years ago and they are still one of the best when not compared to the Ultimate Magicians. Plus, they have the demon animals they faced when getting to the fort to compare to which they also struggled to deal with one on one without the Ultimate Magicians. If mindless beast where that strong, they should know that a human gaining that power will be much stronger.

@Flavor25 In the novel(s), he and his people got unsatisfying massacred offscreen. It describes them sneaking in, getting cocky at killing a couple of mooks, and then getting utterly surrounded. Then it transitions away, and it only shows us their fate (vaguely) when the Ultimate Magicians arrive and find their mauled corpses.

The devil that influenced him didn't exist, and neither did these rogue elite devils. Manga seems to diverge slightly from the novel.

In the novel, the devils arc seems to end after this upcoming fight. (Remember that the elites shown here don't really exist in the novel besides the one leader and perhaps one or 2 more.) The commander doesn't spoil the imminent attack directly. The remnants of the commoner devils get cocky again and decide to attack what they assume to just be a singular army or brigade. The elites (with some semblance of strategy) realize that the coalition (and Ultimate Magicians) must be nearby and preparing an assault, and they evacuate on their own while being called cowards. Devils make cringy spiel about destroying the world or something... and then Shin and co. arrive, metaphorically guns blazing.

@Next_order True, but there's the issue of them not understanding just HOW strong (and dangerous) these devils are. The Ultimate Magicians are doing a very good job at preemptively destroying them and minimizing the casualties, so the normal peeps don't have much experience to base off of.

They live in the scale of 1-10, with 10 being the Heroes (the Guru and Magi). The Ultimate Magicians are somewhere in the 10s to 50s, depending on the individual.
If they can seemingly mow down the devils with relative ease, where does that put the devils on the scale?

They don't have anything to compare the devils to besides the Ultimate Magicians, which we readers know to not be a very good comparison.

@PhoenixStriker5251 But they can't even handle a scale of 10. If the heroes are a 10 and it took 2 of them to barely beat 1 devil in their prime, what makes them think they can handle a group of them? The fact remains that they couldn't even beat their guard dogs which they knew where catastrophe level threats. Thinking that the master of catastrophe level beast were weaker is simply naive and arrogant.

Ironically, the demons aren't really moving to Sctrom's orders, but rather that mustached demon pretending it's orders from high up. And he's doing it because Sctrom's lost interest in them after he got his revenge.

Very ironic that the demons don't see that they have become the very thing they despise, using and discarding both human and demon lives for their own benefit. And Strom is suppose to have a mental breakdown later due to his experiment failing right?

Truly ironic, although the demons use the excuse of survival/justified revenge because of their mortal sufferings. And yes, Strom broke down after realising he can't produce demon babies.

I am honestly surprised that the amazing MC power of foreknowledge hasn't actived; I really thought Shin would have seen through this, with all of the other isekai tropes... but maybe not?
I really do wish that jackass from Darm could have suffered more before dying, though; it would have done him good to see just how easily his jealousy had led him astray.

I kind of feel bad for those independent demons... too bad they're too stupid to try talking things out

Kind of silly how no one bothered to think that the one dude that very obviously hates shin and the rest would try something stupid, also don't they have the ability to sense demons?
