Gate is just like the "recall" spell you see in most rpgs. You need to have visited the place at least once to register it on your list. >_> Which kinda makes sense.

Gate is opening a portal to a place where you know what it looks like or what the caster remembers.
It was never been something like opening a portal to something you dont know.
Remember, they didnt use Gate on Sicily's town nor Resort town on their first trip to that area. They used carriages to reach the town.

Its a huge area, they can talk it out if they want to. Also, no one would be sane enough to wait for them to fight. Even you would run the moment you see someone throw a pillbox near you.

And Goku goes "Oh" and pops away and Gohan says "Did...did he just remembered he could do that?" yeah, that Goku's currently smarter than all these kids.

Yeah, and Goku can't "pop" anywhere he wants.

He can only pop to people who's energy he can feel and recognize.

Same how Shin and others can't use gate to places they are unfamiliar with. And no matter where they teleported, they wouldn't have made it in time to save the soldiers stationed in the devils' way.

For those that are commenting on the "gate" spell allowing the mc's to just "warp" to the battlefield. It was explained several times already that it doesn't work that way. In fact its even called out in this chapter that unless you have been to a location before you can't gate there. It is not a plot hole. This has already been pointed out several times by more attentive readers in the comments I know but I just wanted say it as well.
