Those aren't random background characters. I'm 99% sure that's Sakuragaoka Kanade and Mebuki Sakura from Sakura Discord, Masuda Eiji's previous work. This is further supported by the page 3. The line "a small step can unexpectedly change the world" is the most important line of Sakura Discord (though I knew it slightly differently due to the translation).

Didn't read that manga but it is nice to know trivia like this when author not only does character cameo but also reference the lines from it

The Japanese school year starts in April and summer vacation starts in mid-July.

Also going back to Chapter 1 Hikoichi had started noticing Nayu four months before the start of the story.

Cancer runs from June 21 to July 22. They were studying for finals and now his birthday is next week. His birthday could fall on either side of the break starting. I'm guessing it's before since the next chapter is the double BD chapter.
