This new girl isn't a bitch at all, she just wanted to make sure her friend wasn't doing herself dirty by going out with someone who everyone perceives as a loser, but doesn't know the good points of. Yeah, being too nice as a guy is absolutely a problem and a very good reason for why women reject men. It means they're pushovers and anyone can walk over them. Women clearly prefer guys who are capable of standing up for themselves, because it's a reliable heuristic they can use to gauge and vet which men will defend her and her future children if the situation calls for it, and which men will be too meek to be up for the task.

Anyone who is or previously was, or knew a guy like this knows the world isn't too kind to them, because their excessive kindness paired with a lack of backbone makes people perceive it was weakness both in real life and in fiction (as true of MC in this case with his nervous attitude, though his actions are another story, and hence why she changed her mind when presented with new info, but the point still stands that first impressions matter and people can only judge someone based off of whatever info they have available at hand, and the first impression he has on people is that he's a nervous wreck).
