So we got some useless waffling about some guy nobody cares about, barely any SuleMio interaction and a het aquarium date? Ew. Ew. Ew.

I couldn't care less about any Elmo arc. Go away.

Really, this manga is such a disappointment. It's just a collection of all the things I don't want of a gwitch manga

If we need to reference the anime plotline, I think this works well. Both the event and the triplets instead of Elan, clone Elan 4, and clone Elan 5. The birthday can't be nearly so... yknow.

There's no way to write Elan in this arc that won't tick people off. Including me~ The anime's het flirting was interesting even if uncomfortable because it showed SuleMio wasn't a healthy relationship at that time. It's still Suletta being an airhead and causing grief for Miorine. :wowee: Push your girl against that wall and cement the relationship, Miorine! We're a few arcs early from that 'basically confession' and probably won't get a reprise of the funny yet painful accidental tit punch

In this fluff version, Suletta and Miorine are closer faster. The early snideness from Miorine's fears and prejudices was excised, which makes the yuri more mutual earlier. Anime Suletta at this point seemed attracted to Miorine['s legs] but Miorine's mixed signals were confusing, and verbally set a nonromantic distance.

Here: Miorine is less guarded against Suletta, so birthday boy isn't a romantic challenge. No implication Elan actually being friendly and flirty would have a romantic value that Miorine is failing to fill beyond being blunt it's romantic. Instead it's an aquarium date that is going to tick Miorine off but she doesn't need to play catch-up in Suletta's bi heart because Miorine isn't fumbling conversations and discomfiting the purehearted homeschooler. At worst Suletta may have a bit of comphet assumptions, but Elan can't come between these useless sapphic besties beyond giving Miorine a fright.

I liked the Elans as characters, but not all their necessary plots. So for me this is about ideal for a peacetime reimagining. Miorine's jealousy is important to make her more honest and openly romantic; this is hardly the worst case of missed opportunity leading to regret in yuri. So not a comfy plot but it did work in the anime.

I'm guessing Peil is going to try to get Elan to lie and spy on Suletta, again, maybe less weirdly love-hate on sadboi's part. This route he could get expelled and that be what moves corp politics to send his ambitious brother to Asticassia as a replacement.

The text messages got some laughs out of me

Their stories seem pretty interesting, clearer villain and end goal, although we don't know how much this Elan care about it

I've been to Enoshima! Yeah the jellyfish room looks like that.

Maybe the first time a manga was set in a place I know.

The best thing that happened to Elan was dying and getting replaced by the far more entertaining Elan 3 and eventually buddying up with Norea, tbh. No clue how that's going to happen here, though...

I really didn't expect people to hate Elan this much but reading you guys' comments about him was extremely entertaining - in the good sense. Because even the translator was also bitching about it before she even read it (hi).
That being said, as part of the Space Lesbians enthusiasts working on this manga, do look forward to the special short story that came with volume 2 of the manga, it will up soon. ;) Don't give up on the manga just yet. The gays shall prevail, my friends.
(In the meantime I will be reading all these comments and fondly store them in my heart for seeing SuleMio is alive, well and aggro! Thank you all.)

I really needed to hear that, thanks ! There's nothing wrong with the chapter per se, but as of now we're definitely not going in the direction I was hoping we would go with this spinoff :( If the goal is just to redo the same story beats as the anime but more rooted in ''reality'' , then my interest is close to zero going forward. The opportunity to see the SuleMio stuff done right is what has brought me in and what I'm hoping to get from this.

Andigo's comment up there is in line with what I thing in terms of how relationships are going to go here.
Besides, considering the mangaka was also part of the very yuri oriented staff (it's like they really went out of the way to involve people connected to yuri, like the director being part of the Utena staff and the character designer being the Witch Hat Atelier mangaka, and likely more I'm not aware of), I expect it to not dwell much on the other characters.
Guel was a good example, they wrote him off the story exceedingly quickly.
And even in this chapter you have Suletta wondering how she even ended up tagging along. Suletta there is very much Miorine focused. In the anime you could tell she felt something for Elan but in the manga so far, she's just 'well... I guess now I'm here with this dude.' He's not a threat, at best he'll become her friend and a constant source of Miorine hissing. Corn cob boy ain't got no chance.
