I really like stories with this kind of premise. We've been shown the future where the man survives, so it serves as the biggest plot armor a character can have in the series (in a good way ofc).

I mean it's been more than one hundred years, or the guy got immortality (eating the guts of shrine maiden could give him immortality) or for all we know it's not really him but his incarnation, for all we know maybe he died in the past and his soul got hold of his descendants, I would say it's still a little bit too early to say he has plot armor.
