I am kind of tired of "I don't want you to die so i'm kicking you out of the team with no explanation whatsoever" because while it's better than being kicked out because the team is full of complete dunces who have no brains. It's still not a good storybeat. (especially when the rest of the team ARE complete dunces who have no brains)

And while I'm actively refusing to dislike Carla because of the way the writing has failed her here. It does still suck for the story to be "I believe my childhood friend hates me for no reason" because the author can't be bothered to do any characters but the protagonists justice.

she took that dude's cock for her childhood friend's happiness. when she swallowed his load, it was a load that wasn't placed on her friend's back. ever backshot was a blow she took to save his life. "i played the villain for your sake." did you play the bedwarmer for his sake, too? how are we ok with this dialogue?
no, seriously, why are they here? why are we still following through with the banished party cuckold setup? it's all way less interesting than the actual plot. they could have just made the mc a broke and unappreciated engineer who took a job for the ruined countess out of desperation and pity, and we wouldn't have to do this tired song and dance again.
