Whoa, there's a lot going on there in a single first chapter.
Her boss is clearly underpaying her and she's too naïve to realize.
Her mom clearly left her kids in a terrible financial situation.
The whole criminal underworld element.
The school is an arm for some sort of cult.
Said cult may or may not be sexually exploiting teenage girls in the school (hence the nurse being an OBGYN).
I'm curious, but it could fall apart fast, we'll see.
