What the hell? This is a good oneshot, but it has no real resolution!

@Oeconomist ,because you'd run in with your great knife wielding skills and save the day in his place? It's realistic man. He's a realistic character.

Realism spans a great range of human natures. Yes, there are real people who are shitpies, but if all that you perceive are those people then you have an existence impoverished by your internal limitations.

@Oeconomist Not every manga needs to have an mc miraculously awaken great ability as they run thoughtlessly into danger, to the end of every girl they save falling in love with them. If not for plot armor, they'd all get killed instantly. This manga didn't use any asspulls and it ultimately wasn't about action. It was meant to be creepy and it succeeded. Not making any assumptions about you, but I doubt you've been running at many gunmen lately, because that's as close as you'd get to this.

You need to stop snarking and argue more appropriately. No one is calling for miracles. No one is calling for special ability. No one is calling for success. What is needed is character.
It was meant to be creepy and it succeeded.
It was meant to be creepy, but it was more disgusting than creepy, because the protagonist locked-up when faced with a simple choice with only one right answer. Effectively, he defaulted to a life not worth preserving.
Not making any assumptions about you
Of course you are, and that's why, for example, you made your earlier, sarcastic comment
because you'd run in with your great knife wielding skills and save the day in his place?
without realizing that, yeah, one of the knives that I usually have on my person is specifically a weapon, and I know how to use it.
I doubt you've been running at many gunmen lately, because that's as close as you'd get to this.
First, it's epistemically quite different. This protagonist had no way of being sure that the monster would or could hurt him; the protagonist was such a shitpie that he didn't act because he didn't know whether the monster could hurt him. But, second, even faced with a situation in which the probability is more clear (as in the case of a gunman), one shouldn't lock-up. It's far better to be killed or injured than to do nothing.
