I wonder what would happen if he simple talks to them about his fears and whatnot. They seem to love him enough to not harm him regardless of what he does and its not like he doesn't care for them as despite what he says his innerself leaks out telling us he loves them too. Just that his fear of them overpowers his love for them quite often
