I'd put "two immortals finding a way to die" on the same level of not-yet-cliche as "going to the past to prevent a disaster" as well as "a magical book that turns anything you write on a reality". Those concepts are very easily replicable by anyone who is mediocre in writing skills but what is the most crucial of this is the execution.
Steins;Gate is an example of the second one in a way that makes us sympathize with Okabe because he witnesses the different dystopian world lines when it all started from curiosity.
Death Note is also the third but much more sinister and hooks the audience with fantastic writing regarding the cat-and-mouse-chase battle between Light and L.
Let's see where this adventure takes us.
