Yay! It seems the drama in the upper class has been quashed without fuss.

But now the lower class is cleaving to their respective factions and causing friction.

Akane’s mindset is really terrible, and it’s no wonder that it’s now causing friction with Miu. And Yuka’s naiveté doesn’t help one bit. Selfless love might seem romantic when you’re young, but in reality it can quickly become destructive and burdensome to the object of your affections. But, this manga does include some good examples of communication, so I’m sure it will resolve nicely.

What won’t resolve nicely is Rey’s blocking and choice of panels making conversations hard to follow. It took me five passes to work out exactly what was going on during that final argument and who was talking to who. It also doesn’t help that I still get mixed up between characters, though I do feel more confident in working that out this late in the game.

Thanks for the translation Sciencey team! Impeccable work as ever 💜

Still hate the childhood friend 😐

Also she's gross levels of people pleaser, she basically caused all drama this chapter, by meddling where it wasnt for her to meddle yet again 🥲
They throw their stuff away and she tells them to calm down, when they didnt get a sorry or anything rather they were hit by attitude

Well I wouldn't say ALL, because if she didn't step in the first time, things would probably get even dicier with Akane stirring the pot. But I do agree that she's a people pleaser, she's a good mediator, but that's all she does while leaving things half-done.

The first-year Ruri class are just selfish pricks, but I guess that's obvious considering they were sheltered posh pre-teens just a year ago.

1-B's Ruri students are really being unilaterally shown as awful. Trashing a full day's work from other students simply because they're from the Ai class is behavior I'd expect from petulant children, not high schoolers who are supposedly "well-bred".
I fully get bullying is a thing, but this feels incredibly one-sided given Ai class was made out to be "full of delinquents" in the first chapters, but now it's just snobby rich kids punching down and then acting surprised when the Ai kids bite back.

But more importantly - Akane's complete lack of self-worth is definitely going to keep escalating, though it seems like, just maybe, she had a sudden pseudo-"moment of clarity" in the face of Miu's outburst at the Ruri students before storming off with the rest of Ai class.
Yuki tried to be kind and consideratein their talk, but I don't think Akane really bought her reasoning - and I'm not 100% I did either, though I can appreciate her efforts, from her limited worldview & experience. But I truly think it'll come down to communication. We've had a whole theme of that this entire series, in fits and starts but in ways that actually propelled characters forward, so I'm hoping that they're next on the docket for a true "heart to heart" that maybe sees Akane start to heal from whatever caused her self-loathing, and Miu being at her side to help.

Hoshinagi still grates on me, and that's entirely because she's getting in the way of Yuka & Mitsuki. But the fact that she's attempting to keep the peace and help out Akane in the face of the Ruri students' shitty behavior is something, I guess.
I got thrown when she referred to Yuka as "Yuu", because I don't recall her doing that before now - and it made me actually forget who she was when talking to Prez at the start of the chapter. Never mind, I found where Koharu calls Yuka "Yuu" back when she's first officially introduced in chapter 25.

I guess she's just gonna exist outside of the whole Ai / Ruri divide for the time being, but it would seem that as long as Mitsuki's not involved, she doesn't get actually catty, so maybe she can be of assistance in at least keeping things from reaching a boiling point going into the festival.

But with all the concurrent plot lines, I kinda feel like the festival itself will be a flashpoint of everything coalescing together in a big show of drama. Prez Amane seems to be actively processing her one-sided feelings for Mitsuki, but I kinda feel like something might still go down between her and Yuka. And I expect Hoshinagi to confront Mitsuki, as well, or at least have that out in the open. Akane & Miu need to sort themselves out, and I guess Izumi and Mai are...well, doing okay for the moment.

Either way, lots of juggling, but I'm excited that things are still moving along. Thanks for the TL work, and I look forward to the next.

I'll be so real, without going back to remember who is who, this chapter is just too many vaguely similar girls for my brain to parse lmao
Same. I was alright at the start but once we got into the younger class I had no idea who anyone was. Might be a case of waiting for a few new chapters to drop and I'll have to go back to the start.

I mean, I don't think you need to remember anyone other than the main cast and they're pretty recognizable, but maybe its also cause I've reread this a few times.

Anyways, president-chan is still best girl as she side eyes the childhood friend like, "you pathetic dweeb, you've already lost".

Akane & Prez (Kurusu Amane) both have dark hair - but Akane has the braid to one side, and is a 1st year, and is best friends (paired with) Miu.
But Amane is the one who has a one-sided, unrequited crush on Nanase Mitsuki, yes.

Resolve one love triangle, heading towards another - even if just Akane's apprehensions about Koharu and Miu.

For a moment I thought pres would catch on to VP flirting with her... [which isn't even IN this chapter and I overlapped from a prior one...] instead she dug the jealousy deeper for the transfer student and Yuka. Hopefully that leads to growth.

It's wonderful that more conflicts (and relationships) are getting fleshed out. That was delicious. :smugchisato:

Flipside: This chapter was the best showcase yet of what makes the story awkward to get used to. I'm going to think of it as an art accessibility issue. When rereading it hit me just how much of this chapter's flow relies on noticing a few locks of hair and assuming conversation flow. We got both pairs of main cast lookalikes, and there's the face issue... The author isn't drawing unrealistically but without exaggerated features we've got less clues than were the plot told in photographs. And east Asian writing does have a higher rate of unattributed lines that expect readers to interpret social flow. So few panels are flat out flaws... the story is within norms... but access is a matter of less than obvious cues. Thus, it's accessibility issues that I can [75% lol] spot even if I adapted already.

My biggest personal quibble is the author uses minimum carats on dialog bubbles. The choice of angles is fine, I adore art highlighting twitches and microexpressions, but I wish we at least got carats on dialog bubbles where the speaker is out of frame. I got lucky this chapter but I don't have great accuracy guessing conversation flow.

There's a lot to learn from this manga. Both dos and don'ts.

I thought Prez was talking to Koharu at the start, who's Hosho's childhood friend? The VP (looking at chapter 24 anyway) is Shiho, right?

Which I guess goes into what you mentioned in the rest of your comment about readability of characters among the "secondary cast", but, yeah.

I do wonder if Koharu is going to get in between Akane and Miu. She obviously has latched onto Miu to some degree, but I'm uncertain if it's a conscious thing on her part, of if it's simply Akane's anxieties and obsessiveness that's creating the actual friction. (I'm inclined toward the latter, if only because what Akane's got going on is just....unhealthy, and needs to be addressed sooner than later for both her and Miu's sake.)

I do think it's getting easier to parse the comic as chapters go on, but that's more because I'm constantly going back and referring to previous chapters, and I think the sheer repeated read-throughs are the biggest part of sorting out the characters. And not everyone has time for that, so.

Amane still looking at Mitsuki with that endearing look of longing makes me wish she'd have a talk with Yuka that helps Yuka put things into perspective. Yuka's proper introspection focus is long overdue, we just kept being shown her naiveté and romanticism, which this chapter really showed was never going to be enough to save a relationship.

For someone who supposedly likes putting things out in the open, Koharu certainly liked keeping things vague and subtle in her attempts to monopolize Yuka. She still irks me. Her attempt at trying to tread the centerline without having a clear moral ground to stand on (come on, throwing away someone's hard work? Just like that? And still having the audacity to go "it's because nobody talked so you guys are at fault too"?? Goddammit) just grates on me even more.

There really isn't a single reason to like her so far, which is very rare in this series as even I found the relatively dry and cardboard-cutout Miu-Akane (until this chapter at least, where they finally need to address the elephant in the room) somewhat interesting.

Akane was at least self-aware about the elephant, she just didn't verbalize it much—she talked about it nearly every time she gets a spotlight away from Miu. Koharu, however, either actively pretended it's not there (which means she's deliberately an ass for nobody's benefit) or wasn't even aware that it's there (which means she's stupid). Either character is annoying to handle IRL or in fiction. Chaotic trickster figures are at least usually self-aware that they seek fun or transformation, Koharu was just actively sabotaging things and she didn't even know why.

At the very least the seniors' drama had mostly fizzled out nicely with Amane using her street cred to clear Mitsuki's name….

I feel like this is going to be a manga I’ll enjoy a lot more once the whole thing is released and I can reread it from beginning to end. Because each time I’m always struck with a feeling of: I don’t remember if we’ve been introduced to this character before, and therefore should I understand why the character is acting in the way they do?

Honestly outside of the food scenes, and the general Ruri vs Ai plot, I just find this manga one of the harder ones to follow, mostly because of the fact I can’t keep the characters straight in my head, even if I remember enjoying it every single time I reread it.
