Mitsuki removing that earring's a pretty big deal, assuming she doesn't just put it right back in.

Haru's absolutely going to shoot her shot; there's no reason for her not to, even if she's near-certain as to what Yuka's response will be. It might be annoying because of the trouble it'll cause Yuka to be confessed to when she's worrying over how to confess to her senpai, but I think as people within this world, it's more important that Haru do it, get rejected, and get it over with so that she doesn't let those feelings fester on her own, and risk them turning into something even worse down the line.

Mitsuki needs to get her act together, though. Yes, she's trying to be overly considerate, given the "optics" of who she is and who Yuka is. There's the timeline of her exams as well, of course--but really, none of that matters.
Hopefully the communication we've been seeing from Prez, and from Miu and Akane, means that Yuka and Mitsuki will find a way to actually talk things out as well. I suspect it won't happen until Haru does her thing, but...here's to it not taking another dozen chapters.

I'm just trying to figure out if she's got a "pair option" among the remaining cast, or if she'll be a leftover.

I thought maybe Prez would be it, but she's got her fellow council member Otohana Shion, who seems to be ..."close" to her going by ch.24.
Can't think of any other of the named cast who's currently without a partner (potential or realized), so I'm just waiting to see what comes of her, I guess.

I can tell but I do have that feeling with Whisper me a Love song. I blame the wait time on updates but I do understand. That and I read too many Yuri manga some taking forever to update so I forget which is what story

Well, im not a fan of stories that need the rival trigger to progress, tho thats like 70% of romcoms out there, but as is, the story was indeed in a stalemate, so something was needed to reignite progression. Tho, if all the pages used for Haru were invested in the plot im sure it would be a lot more interesting then falling for the cliche road. Also, Haru confessing now when she knows Yuka likes someone else is just selfish.
Anyway, Mitsuki finally showed us something about her and Aoi. So it might had been admiration or just a crush, but not enough for her to be compelled to reach out as it is with Yuka. Good grief, shes so mysterious.

I get what you mean by rival characters, and I agree I'm not a fan when they're necessary to progress. I don't think that's exactly what's happening here so it doesn't bother me but I can see how it's similar so I get being annoyed by it.

I think for me it's kind of an acknowledgement that they've both lived lives to this point and they're both attractive so of course other people would be interested in them as well. And that time won't stay still while they get their courage up.

I really, really like this manga. Mitsuki and Yuka are just so fucking cute.

As much as I don't love love triangles, I will say at least I don't hate Haru. Too often the third wheel ends up just being a legitimately terrible person.
