Great chapter except for the potential triangle bait we do not need. Just make him her brother and everyone will be fine with it. No childhood friend trope needed in our wholesomeness.

It feels like it might be a drama fake-out with the way it's set up, but introducing more right off the back of Asshole-Whatshisface would be weird pacing, in my book.

Brother (who might be "overprotective") who gets on MC's case about being around his sister until MC can "prove/be approved" in Brother's eyes would be reasonable enough, I think.

Otherwise her handling of Asshole-Whatshisface was pretty much exactly how I wanted it to go down, right down to his two friends actually taking her side and telling him to stfu up before dragging him away. MC gets beat up, but she gets to hear his genuine thoughts, and boost herself up a bit after she faces old fears and puts them in their place.
