I think because of this chapter, I don't have it in my heart to say that this manga is bad. There is certainly great story telling elements and characterizations at work here, but there's also so bad stuff that just brings it down, but in the end the stronger elements do ultimately prevail overall.

@botodopo I don't think that's fair. Depression strikes anyone and when it strikes, it strikes hard. Suicide rates tend to be high in high achievement cultures like Japan where family honor and success is highly regarded. Thus, overwhelming pressure and the inability to live up to your "expectations" leads to social isolation and disenfranchisement. He's not being a "pussy," but everyone in his family is out achieving him and he is watching all he worked for crumble before him as even his little sister is doing better than he is and his family stopped caring about him after his grades began to drop. Such high expectations placed on someone and then it all falling to pieces would probably drive someone who has put a lot of self-worth and value into those successes to depression and suicide because it would mean that they, themselves, are a lesser person for failing.

@Tamerlane blah blah

he was the one out-achieving her, she was the one living under his shadow. she showed some ability and got recognition finally after going to some shady school and pushing herself too hard, and he despises her and can't handle it. 6 months of dealing with what she dealt with her entire life up to then. im sure making excuses for people will solve their problems.
