It's a very sweet series. The two main couples are lovely (both human + beastmen or beastwomen pairings). I've followed its original releases to the current chapter (43). I'm glad it's getting an anime--surprised too. It's popular but I still didn't expect this.

You could read the preceding connected series, "Hana and the Beast Man." That one ended and is amazing as well. It's been a while but I believe the couple from "Hana and the Beast Man" are the parents of the Beastman from this series.
