if you are familiar with the author's prior work this doesn't surprise or infuriate you cause it's par for the course all you need to know is Eito does have character growth its just making him an idiot is necessary for his character arctype
Thanks for the translation as always~ I mentioned this on 162 as well but the shoes use "van der waals forces" (you didn't seem to know that term since you just transliterated it directly from the kana), in other words, the way the shoes operate in theory is by ignoring electrostatic repulsive forces to allow the bottom of the shoes to functionally "fuse", not atomically but via intermolecular bonds, to whatever they touch. Basically you can equate it to a weak "tissue" (if you understand the concept of cells and how they stick together) created and torn on the fly as you step using the shoes.
Yup, this author has a thing for: "When the last of the rope comes up, the hero steps up. Rest of the time? Man, life is too short to be angry all the time!" It's what we expect from this author now.
It's at least better than the character being a complete idiot all the time, the character's motivations are changing and growing, the interactions are growing, and if you look at the character compared to the first intro you'll notice the body has changed and the speech/interactions have changed.
