The illustration of her town on p.12 had me feeling things.
Something about a small seaside town with one main road and a cluster of buildings nestled together against the elements and the big wide world - insular, but homey, and where everyone might know your name.
Maybe it's because I never had that, but it's wistful. Maybe something similar to what she feels in the moment of describing her childhood friend's family place of business. A sudden pining, wanting to return--even if in my case, there's no "starting place" to return to.
But the bittersweet ache of homesickness is something I can resonate with. Even with the excitement of the journey, the allure of the Big Open Road, of the unknown - that tether never quite disappears, however far away you might get.
This one's super neat. Thanks for the TL work, I look forward to more.
