The childhood friend is really curious... He's reminding me a little bit of Kenta from Maiko-san Chi no Makanai-san. Childhood friends giving each other food, too... I know it's the same author, that's probably why I feel like that.

Given I believe that box was the Nagano apples given to her by the family in chapter 2 that were in the house that used to be where her grandfather's friend lived, I wonder what Kumakichi is doing flying away with them like that.

Unless the apple trees predated the family - and are themselves somehow magical or otherwise "magically significant", which is why Kumakichi flew away (??) with them.

Hopefully we get more on that sooner than later.
