It's probably my old ass sensor but I could never get a 20s exposure at ISO 3200 to not be a grainy mess.

At ISO 3200 any old sensor will be grainy, and for stars you want to use the lowest ISO possible.
If your camera or lens is not very good for extreme low light the way to do this stacking exposures.
