I think I'd side with the dad in this, but only by a little bit. Yes, he is neglectful towards his son, but I don't subscribe to the idea that parents must sacrifice their entire lives for their children. That might apply to their early formative years, but, as he said, Hitoyoshi is old enough now to not need to be coddled for everything. Let the parents take care of themselves.

Except he's been this way seemingly for Hotiyoshi's entire childhood, without bothering to even talk to his son to explain why he behaves this way. This is nowhere near sacrificing his life for his children, he was never even present to begin with. They got all the physical necessities (shelter, food, clothing) but none of the emotional care children need from their parents in order to grow healthily. The kid isn't even out of high school dude what are you talking about

Practically abandoning your kids after they become teenagers is okay? Never have kids

I think you read about the first 7 words of what I said and that's it.

I don't plan to, but the fact that you feel the need to say something like this to someone after about 3 seconds of interaction with them on the internet makes me more concerned about any you might have.

Everyone focusing on Hotiyoshi's neglectful dad.

I am over here grinning because we got more of Anna-chan's foster parents flirting so shamelessly. <3
