I feel like it front loaded all the goofy things, then it went into serious arcs in between. I don't know if it's because I'm used to the 80's and 90's pacing of wacky action rom coms that do mini arcs that build up into either a nothing burger or a proper romance arc, but I guess now I do appreciate those doing that for making it more interesting despite being less cohesive

sigh Anyone else ready for this sister arc to be over already? It may just be me, and I'll accept all the "dumb" and "strike" reactions I get hit with if so, but the sister is so annoying and is bogging down this whole story like crazy.

this arc was meant to be the setup into meeting Shue's master, the one who transformed her from Maria INTO Shue. That's why Anna hates her, cuz all she sees is the Master that turned her into a murderer.

I like this arc quite a bit so far.

If I'm not mistaken, Anna was trying to get rid of everyone who contacted/hired Shue when she was an assassin, then kill her after that because she was convinced that the "Maria(The loving sister)" part of Yuki was long gone and "Shue(The Assassin)" was all that's left. Anna wanted to kill Shue because she doesn't want her to remember how their parents died(They both had amnesia because of the trauma???) because she didn't think Maria could handle the truth if she ever remembers (Anna remembered because of the newspaper clipping of their family dying and hid it from Shue)

But now Anna is conflicted because Yuki is suddenly showing signs of Maria (having a tantrum because she broke something that was special to her and apologizing to Anna) when back then she was already convinced she was long gone.

shitty childhood as a result of superstar popularity during childhood that led to being trafficked and trained as a highly intelligent assassin. The idea is the best weapon is a smart and loyal one but can only be forged starting in childhood since children are extremely easy to manipulate.

--> Maria aka Shue/Xue aka Yuki accepts killing as a method of making a living in addition to whatever other brainwashing she took in --> Anna's personal ideology conflicts with that and cannot be reconciled --> Anna leaves and breaks apart their family bond, they both remain this all the way into adulthood --> Yuki somehow becomes connected to the Yokoya Family (Hityoshi's family) at some point + the brainwashing seems to have subsided which will eventually be explained leading to our present day bonds. Anna lives for all the baggage + revenge.

Let's remember that when Yuki first arrived, she said she had a referral from her master to become a servant for the Yokoya Family. Naturally Hitoyoshi, never taking whatever his father said seriously, brushed it off and didn't believe it. This is why when his father returned home, he felt left out and surprised that Yuki and his father recognized each other. Ofcourse, Yuki heard of him from her previous master but only met him for the first time at the store.

SUPER SIMPLE SUMMARY: both traumatized --> Maria aka Xue/Shue aka Yuki is trying to move on now and is advancing. Anna is still stuck in her trauma, unable to or not ready to move on and this causes a conflict between the sisters.

If you still don't get it, try thinking of soldiers returning from combat duty that need time to get over PTSD. Many get through it, many need more time, help or cant get through it.

Despite Anna seeing "Xue"(her killer self) as her sister, she loved Maria(her innocent self) more, wanting her back and seeing "Xue" as breaking her heart.
She originally thought she had killed Maria, and eventually wanted to apologize for abandoning Xue. However, realizing that Maria just shut down her emotions rather than being dead, wanted to sacrifice, hence, "kill", "Xue" so that "Maria" could live on.


This is one of those arcs where if you skim it it becomes extremely confusing




Anyway this arc has been going on more 14 chapters and feels predictable now that the backstory is revealed.

It feels dragged out especially since it expresses that there are still 7 other assassins excluding the Master(Dragon) and Yuki(Wolf) according to Anna but she doesn't know there true names

Also kind of wish Anna had her own love interest to make things even with Yuki
