it's not like dating is the only time they ever interacted , the MC noticed she has forcing herself on their day to day interactions too , like she was reading his notebook of what he wanted to do as couple and his friends said that to him, the date was just the culmination of it all , he finally was certain she didn't love him romantically but as a friend. honestly that was super mature of the MC not dragging things but instead let go so both can be truly happy in the long term.

Also what did you expect his sister to say to him ? go keep trying to conquer her heart ? dwell on it more ? it's normal to people who get heartbroken to have their friends and family tell them to move on.

Sometimes a romantic relationship is just not meant to be, not every romcom should end up with them together.
