I'm afraid the manga failed to live up to its potential. Its beginning is strong enough, introducing a deaf character and showing some of her struggle without taking itself too seriously or moving outside of slightly absurdist comedy genre.

But after the first few chapters, the deafness of FML seemingly starts mattering less and less for the plot, as the manga refocuses instead on the usual Japanese school slice of life. It'd be alright, if not for its failure to introduce strong supporting cast to complement the female and the male leads. As it is, a kappa is the extra with the most engaging story.

The ending in particular left me puzzled: the protagonists spend a school year together going to the same club, seemingly both quite content with sharing this interest; then start dating (yes, this is one more manga with the "start dating = end story" kind of deal). Then, when the ML, being his usual energetic self, invites the FML to engage in that hobby some more, she drops the title upon the guy? "You're noisy, shut up"?
I just don't understand it, frankly. It's directly insulting and dismissive, and for that, what does that tell us about the protagonists? The FML is willing to stand up for herself and tell the ML to fuck off rather than share his weird hobbies, which she has gladly engaged in for a year? Uhh, just why? Or is it just celebrating being randomly rude to the people you're dating? Just wtf?

All in all, a decent school SoL that doesn't overstay its welcome, yet fails to tell a truly unique story, too. 6/10, with a whole point off for the ending.
Kotoura-san is notably better.
