I mean he said the worst GUY is Yotsuba

And I don't think it's a translation error; Yotsuba is the """"*family name""",

Not literally family name, but the pattern of their names starts from the 4 leaves downwards

Kazuha (1): the mother.

¿Futaba? (2): ¿¿??

Mitsuha (3): the brother.

Yotsuha (4): the fmc

Yotsuba (4): the "worst guy"

There's something we're still missing here, and it's Futaba. And the fact that there are two "4"

  1. First, what name is similar to Futaba?, the name of the hacker friend Fuu-chan whose full name we don't know for some reason. But according to what I read somewhere, her real name is, Futatsugi, which means "two trees". Interestingly, it doesn't deviate from the pattern of numbers.
  2. There is a male Yotsuba who has a high chance of being the father of the family.

What if Yotsuba is the father of both Fuu and Yotsuha? How? First of all, to understand this, we must understand that this family is mentally unstable. Let me explain.

  • First we have the original family, Kazuha and Yotsuba, who have a son, Mitsuha.
  • Her father was unfaithful and had a daughter with another woman. Then named her Futatsugi, following a numerical pattern, It's an obsession he has, but he doesn't use Futaba so as not to be discovered.
  • At the same time, Kazuha and Yotsuba were already going to have a daughter, (Yotsuha), whom they originally planned to name Futaba.
  • Kazuha discovered the infidelity, and in her spite, she decided to make the father, Yotsuba, commit suicide. She names her daughter Yotsuha out of obsession, as a memento of the father before "killing" him.
  • Then Kazuha abandons Yotsuha and constantly uses her to destroy Yotsuba, somehow succeeding.
  • I think it's around the time her father commits suicide that Kazuha finally looks for Yotsuha. But this woman is crazy already and doesn't treat Yotsuha well because she sees Yotsuba in her.
This is where Fuu-chan comes in; somehow I imagine she finds out about the whole situation and that her father was "killed". Discovering that it was Kazuha who did it, that she named her daughter Yotsuha after Yotsuba out of obsession, and that she used her to torture the father.
  • I suspect that Yotsuha doesn't fall ill from exhaustion but from an attempt at something.
  • Fuu-chan planned this to torture the mother in the same way she did to the father.
  • But as fate would have it, the mother dies.
The target of the torture as revenge is dead, but she had to suffer.... Wait a second, there's still a loose end: Yotsuha. Who, although due to her mother actions "stole" his father's name
  • At that moment, Yotsuha becomes the target of torture.
Why Yotsuba is said to be a bad guy?, because Fuu-chan is using her father's name to get revenge. This will cause Yotsuha to fall apart when she finds out it's her "father" doing all this, it will destroy her even more.

And where does the brother fit in? It's not his turn yet, but when Yotsuha finds out her father is "Yotsuba," she'll probably tell her brother everything, and he'll get involved, because "how is it that man not dead?". It's clear he hates his father, probably because he knows about the infidelity. And so the brother will fall in the trap too.

My theory, in short, is that Fuu-chan wants to eradicate all traces of the woman who killed her father, which includes her offspring . And then she'll commit suicide herself, she already tried once, probably after discovering what happened, she failed and decided that the best thing to do was to end the other family before ending herself again.

And where does Uichi fit in? Well, he's just collateral damage for now, but I suspect he'll stop Fuu from doing all of this and try to stop her ending herself in the end.

There's a chance the father is innocent and the mother is the crazy one who did everything, somehow forcing the father to have children with her (rape the father and then threaten to ruin his true family with the result of that """infidelity""") yeh I'm saying he already had a real family. Kazuha probably killed Fuu's mother, or Yotsuba's original wife, at some point when Fuu was too young to remember it. This would further justify Fuu's vengeance because she would no longer be justifying infidelity but seeking revenge against a woman who used her father, discarded him, and killed him, plus killing her mother and leaving Yotsuha as a sick memory of him. Ironically, it would also help explain why he ultimately committed suicide, first his wife, and then Kazuha used the children, whom he probably still considers as his own even though he didn't want them.

The fact this manga manages to avoid the lack of communication trope while still maintaining a high level of mystery as to who the suspect could be (mother, brother, father or childhood friend even) and even keep the mystery a secret really shows how skilled this author is.

As others have pointed out a lesser author might have just dragged the "maybe it was yotsuba all along" on a for a few chapters even thought it'd fly in the face of everything established.

I'm kinda suspicious of Uichi's dad... is it possible he could have had an affair with Yotsuha's mother? Cause his story kinda ended a bit... anticlimactic

The sister got a job
The mother showed remorse
That dad though... nothing
Hmmmm

What if, instead of Yotsuha being a person who never existed, she was actually a constant that is actively trying to prevent Uichi's death? I mean, Yotsuha is so well prepared it's disturbing to a fault. What I think happened was a deliberate redirection of fate onto Yotsuha by her mother, who might or might not be Yotsuha. Now, call me crazy but I think what happened was, in a different timeline, which might be Timeline Zero, both Yotsuha and Uichi got themselves into an arranged marriage, with Uichi being engaged to Fuu-chan. Now, Both were pretty loveless as far as arranged marriages go, which is fair. Uichi actually went for an arrangement because first, his family was struggling financially, and second, maybe Fuu-chan's family offered him a gateway out to fulfil his dreams. But both Uichi and Yotsuha never stopped loving eachother even in this situation. But then something happened within Fuu-chan's family, which got Uichi killed. Upon learning that she went absolutely livid. That's when she got her time travelling powers and decided to go back and enact vengeance upon Fuu-chan's family, using her body and everything. She changed her name to Yotsuba and targeted Fuu-chan's father. She tied him up into a scandal, blackmailed him and redirected the entire fate into her daughter's, or Yotsuha's hands. That way, she could protect Uichi and change the timeline. There are numerous hints of this vicious, cruel plan for vengeance of which Yotsuha's mother's behaviour pointed out. Giving birth to Yotsuha was only part of Yotsuba's grand plan. I suspect that she knew how crafty the mastermind can be, as the OG timeline Fuu-chan might have used the poverty of Uichi's family to get herself engaged to him. Leaving Yotsuha alone wasn't an option and so, she gave her an older brother. The job of his existence was to help Yotsuha into executing her crafty plan into action and protect her back while Yotsuha protected Uichi's. The only failing point of hers was that she died, but at this point, she was satisfied with the result and accepted her fate.

In short, the whole ordeal with Yotsuba, I think, was that she basically created a timed explosive, designed to eradicate Clover and fulfil her selfish first love. But it's only a theory...A Manga Theory...

EDIT: 3 AM hits different...I guess all of this is baloney.

It's so fun reading a manga with normal human beings who communicate.

In any other manga, it would have been 40 chapters of suspecting Yotsuha and then 40 chapters of Yotsuha quietly suffering by herself as she blames herself for making Uichi suffer.
In my experience the ones that actually communicate are the abnormal ones

after the spoiler of last chapter ... (not a complain btw, kinda happy I wasn't that far), buuut
holy shit, the "friend" is a genuine psycho, like wtf was Uchi's fault in all of this, like playing a long game like that is not even being a genuine POS, but just a monster, like she could have gotten a gf or make him just forget about her or try to make him misunderstand and hate her between the years were they didn't see each other, not friggin' destroy a person and family's live as a friggin' sidequest
Let me tell you why since it looks like you also read the raws;
Futaba Futatsugi wants Yotsuha to feels the same kind of despair and sadness of losing someone she loves and cares about. Not metaphorically where Uichi leaves her for some reasons, no! Making Uichi getting a GF or hate Yotsuha won't be the same kind of effects especially the former since we already see in the chapter where in the original timeline when Yotsuha is visiting Uichi, she prepared herself for Uichi to forget about her and found happiness on his own. Futatsugi surely realized this too.
Yeah, it's messed up sure but that's how the mastermind justify their actions.
That aside...
I still don't know if I want to believe Futaba did all that planning by HERSELF. I mean if she's the final BIG BAD here... I'm not talking about the way she executes it. Her hatred itself seems kinda odd to me... I somehow still wants to believe perhaps someone who is an adult manipulate her using her sorrow from the loss of her father into the current situation. That's something that was brought up by Uichi himself when they're on their way to meet her. Like he understands she's a genius but everything seems to not make sense especially considering the plan was enacted when they were in FIFTH GRADE considering the timeline of the fall of his family.
