Like there was some dysfunction, sure. But the sister just didn't like doing schoolwork or being nagged about it, like any normal kid. Then Clover got in her head and convinced her to drop out of school, which she did by way of pretending to be bullied.

Bullying that the mother couldn't find any evidence of, and so she was being accidentally gaslit by her daughter. During this period of emotional turmoil the father was completely useless while Uichi tried to help, so mom latched onto him as her remaining bastion of sanity and support. Which led to her becoming violently possessive to the point of self-harm.

Had Clover not set things off by getting into the sister's head, they would have remained a normal (ie flawed but functional) family. His sister would have been forced to power through and do the work- like we all were- and would at least have her life somewhat held together. Dad's delusional toxic positivity would be little more than quirky optimism, and Mom would have remained sane, stable, and supportive.

Or the sister comes to the same concusion herself later and things still crash and burn. Like, clover doesn't physically force her and it takes very little convincing to get her to be a useless POS. Dad being useless would still likely come to a head when a different family issue comes to a head, and mom still likely has to rely only on Uichi.

Imagining it would all be peachy just because the sister doesn't get introduced to clover is kind of crazy, when you think how many family problems can pop up.

Whose mom do you mean? Yotsuha's? If it’s her, then yes, she is already dead. Yotsuha's brother told her when she was hospitalized. It's why Yotsuha and her brother can live calmly alone without her looming over them.

Not her, the mother who was also a wife.

That is one thing I don't like about the manga, everything else is carefully planned out by the author, and then "Oh, my other childhood friend does all my hacking for me".

She was the most likely suspect, and now she has a motive. It would be really weird if that wasn't the case.

Finally caught up with the translation.. cannot wait to see what will happen.. although it might be better to just drop this until the end is translated with the amount of cliffhangers lol.

Yup, her mother would be better choice. While it obvious, it maintains the consistent narrative if her mother was the clover. Unlike Fuu, her mother seems like the ultimate evil based on what we know about her up until this chapter.

Making the twist never happened would be better than keeping me hanging around waiting for the ultimate twist.

But still i can see Fuu also somewhat being manipulated too by maybe her adoptive father or even Yotsuba mother. At that point, the decision point is directed toward Uichi being chad once again to save his girfriend.

The mother IS the ultimate cause, though. But It wouldn't make sense for her to be Clover. She's the obvious "evil." Her brother made more sense given he's trying to protect her sister, and might have thought the guy was actually going to get her hurt... especially by her mother. But the mother hurting the kid does not make sense other that just hurting Yotsuba, but that's honestly pretty boring and has some inconsistencies.

Fuutaha makes more sense and a good twist even IF you think it is obvious. Here's the thing. Imagine you're a new reader, and you have never read this kind of story before. Would you have thought it was her and would you have thought it was obvious? The only reason you seem to dislike Fuutaha being Clove is that she follows a pattern you've read before. That's not the fault of the story OR the author. Neither is it your fault... but your expectations of being "wowed" is what killed your enjoyment.

Just think a little more about what the story has been telling you and I think you'll understand how the mother being Clover really doesn't work. Where is the consistent narrative of her being Clover? She clearly hasn't been in the story and there's no connection between these two, and EVERY other person that Clover involved. Fuutaha completes the series. MORESO, it make more sense that the Mother is behind all of this, where she knew she was hurting a child, knows she's taking revenge on her daughter, and thinks it's okay. The real evil here, is not the girl hurting multiple people for the sake of revenge (which is already pretty fucking bad), but the adult that acts for profit (any kind, money, power, or both, for example) knowing she's causing suffering to these people and their families, and thinks that's acceptable, keeps doing it, keeps making more and more people suffer, and it finally reaches her daughter, she's okay with it. I think this makes WAAAAAAAAAAAY more narative sense. Fuutaha is simply a tool she got and might be using her for something. Fuutaha's actions simply align with what she wants, and she's doing nothing about it. Clover being Fuutaha makes sense, while the mother being the ultimate cause of suffering makes even MORE sense.
