What kind of a small world the author live in? People don't easily break promises, plus the 10 years skip still holds Souchi that he either do know or not knowing she is getting married after Sara shows up after the ten years. After that heartwarming confession of truth, Sara can walk away but she chooses to forgive and forget. Things also happen with boku dake when the mc literally saves your life but choose to abandon mc by hearing petty words of his mother. One word, pain.

I liked this story. Sad that he didn't end up with either, but if it's 10 years after and they separated organically since Sara was really meant to go back home anyways, it's not like anybody had too much a choice about it and eventually the relationship itself, if not both their feelings, wouldn't last.

Most stories would have gone through the "whatever it takes" route when they separated, but that's 10 years. It's absurd to think that would really happen. Instead, I like this chosen reality not because it's sad but because it dared to follow realism, even at the very end where he ended up lying to avoid complicating Sara's life. One would argue if he really loved her that much, he would still have given that gift and told her his feelings, but the fact that he didn't just means two possible things; either he doesn't love her that much anymore, or he loves her enough to just let her be happy because he himself is already content enough with his own life.
