i've read the original japanese of this case file, and this is without a doubt 1 of top 3 most tragic case ever of the entire kindaichi case files. if only someone did not let hate cloud the judgement, it would have ended in much better way.

2nd most tragic is the amakusa treasure murder case in which the killer committing the murders for completely wrong reason and ends up doing it for nothing.
3rd most tragic is russian doll murder case which reveal the killer was basically conditioned to commit murders by the SOB who have already died and have orchestrated the entire murders. it also have heartwarming moment from takato the deadly magician.

@cubia Are those two cases from this manga, or other Kindaichi series? Which chapters are they from?

the 2nd and 3rd is from kindaichi case files 2nd series comprised of 10 volumes. the 2nd is from volume 3 and 4, while the 3rd is from volume 6 and 7. the current scans is from 1st series with a total 27 volumes, so i guess it would probably be another year before it will be translated.

A lot of the Kindaichi cases, at least the older ones, tend to have murderers with tragic motives. i-i

there is indeed many case where the killer have some understandable motive going after asshole victims due to being the victim of them or losing a loved one because of the asshole victims. but what makes the top 3 most tragic cases different is because the victim of the cases are actually innocent and the killers have completely wrong motives and done it for completely wrong reasons. which is why i found those 3 cases to be the most tragic case ever of the kindaichi case files.

Ruri's death was like a stab in the heart. Especially when I 1st read it decades ago. The fact that it was the 1st time a little kid died in the series just pushed the knife deeper.
