Come to think of it, 400k soldiers? And was that after a battle reduced their numbers? How is that even possible, Qin has their entire military pooled in one place and it's not even 400k. So what was the scale of battles like in the age of Qin's 6 generals, when Zhao could have an army that large wiped off the map and it didn't result in the entire state being conquered?

China is an immensely populous country, especially before the establishment of the "one-child" policy. You know, "more children means more sources of income for you" essentially was the predominant mindset. The fact that Men were conscripted at a young age to form militia was nothing out of the ordinary as well, more so when you're impoverished, in which at that time, was the case for most people. Also, there's the possibility of reinforcements from neighbouring states or provinces, so yeah, rounding up 400k for large skirmishes especially against Qin, which was the 2nd largest state at the time, is not a difficult feat when given the right relations and conditions.

i dont get what Ten was trying to say in her rebuttal, the 400k victims of the massacre perpetrated by qin most certainly involved non-combatants as well, since we can see a young mangoku getting buried along with his family.
not trying to justify war crimes here, but isnt mangoku's rage at least little comprehensible?

Mangoku was likely a soldier too. I'm assuming there was conscript in these 400k soldiers.

In the bayou war where Ouki died the qin army conscripted "every men capable of wielding a sword". There was likely a lot of teens in there, shin included
