All this strategic battle between the OP generals - Riboku and Ousen makes me wonder how Shin can stand up to , in being a genius in tactics and warfare. Both of them are like playing high level of chess with the lives of thousands of men. The survival of most andthe outcome of the war depends on how they outwit and figure out each other. I can't imagine Shin being a part of them other than being the instinctive leader that he is when he is on the battlefield. Lol.

I see that Riboku's sure win tactic is actually weak against straight up charge of pure strength or so it would seem.

Yeah but I think being just purely instinctive has its limits. As his goal of being a great general of the heavens he needs to be better in tactics and warfare more all the while being instinctive especially when out in the battlefield like his "master" the monstrous bird of Qin, or even General Renpa.
Pure instincts like Duke Hyou's have a fatal weakness and most always be less than the others who can play the strategic game well.

@azywrckt "instinctive" is just bs jargon for deus ex machina anyway. Keeping him dumb and stupid is a good excuse to keep other characters relevant, not to mention the dumb block that always asks for a chapter long info dump will always be present.

The manga calls it instincts but it really in more of a gambit.I mean they see advantages that come with some type of risk but the advantage is worth more so take the risk.

The way I see it, any great plan can fail if carried out by an idiot or luckily evaded by an idiotic move by the other side noone could have foreseen.
Likewise, any idiotic plan can have more success than anyone expect if carried out by someone very intelligent or the other side thinks rationally & logically, thus misunderstanding the whole plan.

Sure, safe & steady are more common and more percentage of wins usually. But sometimes just pure brute force is the easier, quicker or cheaper in terms of life method, especially if the other side thinks in traditional methods or just assumes noone would be foolhardy enough to do something crazy.

Reminds me of the martial art fighting mangas where a guy has no stance (in this case formation) and the enemy stands aghast saying he looks like a greenhorn, but there's no opening!? Truly a master! :D
