Is it wrong to say that this trope is so overtly frustrating because of how preventable it was for him to not get kicked out of STI? Its so infinitely similar to those "misunderstandings" that happen in shoujo, but somehow its happening with the law. Despite him probably having the ability to look these things up himself and figure out if it was actually illegal or not. Even if it was, who's going to enforce it on a completely rare and unique ability holder that has saved lives? It feels overdone by now that he is still "hiding his power".

Anyways, yap done, dislike misunderstanding trope because mc doesnt know how to communicate beyond "oh gosh I hope I do better next time.".

MC's personality is pretty bad. You can see how he just can't be honest even with his childhood friend. In general, he's a loser.

But he's making progress; he's actually putting in effort to become an explorer and not giving up. We'll just have to see what he makes of what he's got.

Power trips aren't really great for meaningful points and a lot of "magic" mangas are power trips.

your overestimating how much leeway he would be given. To begin with, no ones heard of unique ability holders or anything like that. There isn't something like this that they've seen before. He also hasn't done anything important enough for people to overlook this. This wasn't that big of an event and was fully contained within the school. The school would owe him but they can't protect him from the government pursuing him for his crimes or labeling him a threat. As I said in the last chapter, they would just think he's a kind of monster. In fact, in the web novel, they just went ahead and assassinated him just so they didn't have to worry about the question of if he was human or a monster.

Honestly, this first arc before MC tells anyone is unique in some aspects (like the whole working for a small company part) but it just isn't that good. It's probably why they added the whole artificial dungeon rescue to the story (that wasn't in the original story) to have at least something exciting.

The story, themes and pretty much everything changes in the next arcs, for much better in my opinion, even if it gets a bit less unique in its premise.

I will say, they do give a pretty good justification for why MC was right to hide his powers at first later on.

This is the point of the story, everyone. MC is a freaking loser. He knows it, his parents know it, his friends know it, and his freaking dog knows it. He was fine with it too, until he realized that he's being left behind because he has 0 ambition and he's tired of the self-loathing and loser lifestyle so he's trying to better himself.

This is not a power fantasy story where MC gets super powers and is suddenly ultra confident and popular. It's a self discovery story where the super power helps the MC become someone he can be proud of, but it doesn't happen overnight.

If you want a hyper confident badass MC, you're going to be disappointed.
