I think it was meant as a message that it's okay to be weird/strange and that weirdos are people too, but we don't have any author comments about that, so you can basically interpret it however you want.

yeah tho i guess JP is kinda uptight about 'society' and 'status quo' with that 'nail that sticks out gets hammered down' saying/phrase, although it'd be sucky when you're young and not some 'cool/popular attractive kid/teen' since some ppl are like 'read the room' and like going along with the crowd/majority if you don't have a commanding presence yourself, it does seem hypocritical/irritating when there's scenes like these where teachers are like 'be considerate of others' but the other kids aren't told to be considerate of you as well, tho i guess that's a whole nother story (but , wouldn't mind it if the author did another seinen slice of life about the 'weirdo' group of friends/outcasts that's not a school rom com)

(arguably you'd have more 'freedom' as an adult, assuming you don't get unlucky enough to be stuck in a black company job)
