I really like the ship metaphor, it works on a lot of levels. Disconnecting from the big ship and rowing on your own is scary, hard work, full of unknowns. You might get capsized. For other people, they can happily get towed their whole life and never be unhappy. It's sort of a curse that some people get so upset with the big ship that they can strike out on their own, but it's also a blessing to manage to find that opportunity.

Scary just how a simple change in life situation leads me to see this manga in a different light. I used to think ths manga has a cringeworthy method of conveying its moral message, but now I think the way I perceived things from their cringeworthiness is the true cringe after all.

Just as the comment above said, the ship metaphor is really great.

I'd like to think that behind the big ship that people tie themselves into is just another small boat with someone rowing with all their might.

I myself am stuck in trying to make that first row, terrified by my own powerlessness and still resisting the urge to just jump into the sea. Tying yourself to a big ship and getting pulled along is not inherently bad, but you have to always be prepared to row on your own whenever needed!
