I like the manga overall but I find suicide endings like this one sort of a cop-out. Like the question was, how are they going to stay together in the end and suicide is just too easy of an ending. It's harder to write an ending thinking about the struggles they are going to continue to have. Well maybe that is the point... I can see why people might disagree with me on this line of thinking but I just really hate romantic suicide endings in stories.

Noooo! it was obviously coming.. but still..
Why do I always do this to myself.. I knew a toxic yuri manga was not going to have a happy end.

Great story. It got me engaged like nothing else in a long time. I thought this would be just an obscure fetish manga, but it was so much more.

As I said earlier, the only way for this to be any better is if the side plot with glasses girl did not exist. Imagine Hina setting this all up from the start.
But I guess its more tragic this way, as it kinda makes both of them victims of circumstance.

It probably says more about me than anything else and it doesnt paint me in a good light, but damn I could relate to Airi so much. Both the "hanging out with friends but actually finding it boring" and the depression later.

10/10 goated manga. If anyone knows similar stories like this (even if its less .. sad) please tell me.

super depressing ending although i def saw it coming, the whole arc at the end where they run away from home had a really somber undertone to it as it slowly became more and more clear that they had basically dug themselves in a hole so deep that a happy ending was pretty much impossible. there was just such a painful sense of dread that kept building up seeing airi first realize that her old life will never make her happy and refuse to go home, then realize that a life on the run will never make her happy either and refuse to let hina work, and finally realize that even death won't make her happy and refuse to die. and the ways they ultimately ended up dying felt almost poetic in a very messed up way, with airi being choked to death by someone who she physically tormented for her own pleasure and hina leaving herself in the snow to die because she can't live without someone who she emotionally manipulated into being completely dependent on her. i don't know if i've ever read anything that has made me feel so guilty for hoping the protagonists would get a happy ending lol, they're both such messed up people who do such messed up things to eachother but at the same time they're just kids who need therapy not death.

it's overall just a really thought provoking ending and it makes me wonder how much of the tragedy that ended up happening was due to circumstance and how much of it was an inevitability. like was hina herself the cause of airi becoming a sadist or did airi just realize she had always been a sadist because of hina, if the two of them never met would airi have ended up a normal highschooler or would she just be tormenting a different girl in hina's place? and how much different would things have been if the photos had never gotten leaked? would airi still have ended up loving hina and become equally dependent on her or would their relationship have stayed fairly one sided the entire time? would they have eventually just broken up regularly instead of choosing death over separation? i find it all super interesting to think about and this story will 100% be living rent free in my head for the next few weeks. some parts of it were pretty hard to read but i appreciate having a romance manga that doesn't try to make things like sadism and codependency and emotional manipulation seem hot or quirky or romantic, it aims to tell the story of a relationship that is clearly fucked up and succeeds in doing so.
Great take, I agree. The last chapters made it clear none of them were actually happy in their old lifes either.
If they would have just stopped seeing each other naturally.. or if they would have ended up playing too rough, or getting seen either way is up to debate. If it wasnt glasses girl who leaked it, maybe they would have had a fight.. but they would have survived?

I think its quite interesting that Airi never at all thought about the consequences of getting seen, when her self created image relied so much on beeing pure and perfect.

Though I do believe this story is still romantic (and hot, judge me), despite beeing fucked up.

5/10 Seen that ending in a mile away

A unresolved plot point and a little rushed.

But hey, atleast Yuuko didnt get corrupted.

Did it get cancelled? I thought it just ended naturally. Atleast after they randomly run away I did not see a happy end.
They had to end it early I think so they get a few chapters to finish it
What? This manga sold decently well. The five volumes reached 300K copies in circulation back in 2022, which, for the genre and the themes it handles, is a very healthy number. But more importantly, it did REALLY WELL on online platforms and generated a lot of buzz. Hell, on Ichijin-plus, it remains among the most liked manga.

Nothing suggests it was canceled.

This ending, its like, so realistic I think
but even Punpun got a happier ending
I feel super duper bad for their moms right now
And everyone in the school just forgot about them
https://mangabrog.wordpress.com/201...-this-manga-about-cute-girls-and-feel-better/
In this interview Asano says:
"Living is harder than dying, see, so I thought this was the most painful, worst possible ending for Punpun, and that’s why in the end I went with this final chapter." Though he also says people will have different interpretations naturally. But it's interesting to consider if Hina got found just as Punpun did and had to live the rest of her life with this trauma. It reminds me of another tragic series which I like, Sundome, where
the FMC dies at the end (though it's foreshadowed for a long time), and the MMC has to move on from that relationship, although it's presented as good ending.
