I wonder how much is Kiyo making a month?
We know Suu atm isn't making much at all, only some pocket money for little personal expenses and Kenta is just a newbie apprentice but Kiyo is not an apprentice or have any debt to the house but is a full fledged cook now, and a good one by all inhabitants of the house reactions.

@Xical

I'm not sure about specifics, but she should definitely be getting more than Sumire. Most of Sumire's salary is going towards her lessons and other maiko expenses, but only a portion of Kiyo's should be withheld for food and board.

@xical @ktensei yeah it should definitely be more but theres also the factor that she never had any prior experience to being a caterer and all that plus so maybe she might only be making slightly more?? I remember the chapter where they went to Kenta's workplace and her being a bit shocked about the prices so theres that lol

@ktensei @LikeyLookie Mother is paying for all Suu-chan (as well all other maiko apprentices ) expenses, be education, clothing, food etc, so when they finish their apprenticeship and start to make money, most of it go to cover their debt with the house, and when they finish they can move out like Momoka and become independent w/o cutting bonds with the mother they studied.

@LikeyLookie They probably didn't expect the omurice to be 1000 yen. Most places like that price their omurice at around 800 yen if I remember correctly? So it's not too out of the blue.

@Xical That's...basically what I just said? Most of the money that Sumire is making right now is going to Mother for her lessons and other expenses.

@ktensei technically Kiyo isn't making money at all, Mother is asked to send Geisha (s) to a tea House or private party and maiko (s) tag along to help and learn by watching their Onee-san work, in the end even a prodigy like Suu is still only a maiko and the patrons will pay the wage of the Geisha and a(little?) compensation to mother for the extra helpers.

@Xical First things first, Sumire and Kiyo are two different characters. And Sumire absolutely does make money for the events that she works at (aka doesn't just sit at the side and observe). Maiko earn a fixed amount of money per hour and it's standard to tip them, so while they obviously earn less then geisha, they still do earn money. Basically, as soon as maikos start going to events, they start earning money.

@Xical I think you have the wrong impression about onee san relationship.

1. If its about the one who exchanged sake, their relationship isnt about working in the same dinner party or attend the same patron but more like Yakuza sakazuki ritual (if you already read yakuza themed series you know how this work, its basically the same). So if they attend the same party, at first its to advertising their little sister to her patron (and guide her if needed), the next can be a full coincidence (like some chapter ago).

2. Its the same too with others onee san (your senior), they basically just your work colleagues (just more senior and because there is a tight hierarcy system at work, you must respect them).

In short, when you attend the party, you already working full time. About the price, Maiko definitely cheaper to meet rather than a Geiko, even though I think to meet a rising star like Momohana can be more expensive than a normal Maiko.

Ahhh that makes more sense. I do wonder if they would have reacted the same if it were 800 yen tho since kiyo and sumire never really go out to eat anyways.

@xical
I dont really see how (on the business side of things) it would make sense to not pay for a maiko when they're still working and entertaining guests with performances. At that rate sumires debt will never be paid off
