IIRC, the God who gave Kobayashi the holy sword is bored of life and kidnapped a bunch of folks close to Kobayashi to force her, Tohru, and appearently Fafnir into the tournament. The plan looks like it involves using Fafnir's curses to do some kind of self-anihilation trick and escape their godhood? Everybody else showed up when they were told they could fight and raise their chaos faction rank, but one of them is going to have to put Kobayashi into mortal danger and force her to use the holy sword for the plan to work.

Meanwhile there's a rescue team trying to save the hostages so Kobayashi's crew can just leave.
