Oh boy, who let me cook? Time to crucify this pedo groomer. Page 7 is absurd. Even in a vaccum, a parent leaving hickies on their child is obviously inappropriate. Given the context of this situation it is WORSE. Reiji has romantic interest in a child, so those marks hold a far different meaning (honestly hickeys are arguably inherently sexual most of the time).
Abuse does not have to be physical or sexual violence, it could be emotional abuse, power abuse, verbal abuse, etc. Abuse is defined as “the improper usage or treatment of a person or thing”. Going by this definition and what we know of Reiji’s actions, he is definitely abusive. He takes his position as Rin’s guardian to garner favor and touch’s her inappropriately (an example of this would be when she was sick and he used the medicine as an excuse to touch her chest). I will go full Twittertard and say this is a power imbalance that Mr. Groomer is taking advantage of. Of course to what degree of abuse this is, is arguable so Aoki needs a stronger card to play against Mr. Groomer here.
Pg. 11 & 12 makes me gag. Let us not forget Rin is 10 years old. She is obviously smart, but at this point she is so mindfucked into thinking that Reiji needs her that she places aside her own desires for him. Once again, she is 10 years old. Why are we leaving such a decision in the hand of a child and a grown man who is grooming her to be his wife? It reeks of emotional manipulation. Sadly our Aoki isn’t the brightest and didn’t record this conversation, but this is still child abuse. Aoki could get Rin taken from Reiji if he had proof of Reiji’s intentions.
I have been shitting on Reiji the past few chapters but I had to write this because Aoki failed miserably to counter Mr. Groomer’s points. I really couldn’t give a shit about Mr. Groomer’s trauma or past at this point, he knows what he is doing.
I can’t believe a manga made me use overused terms such as “groomer” and “power imbalance” but fuck me does it fit here. I would gladly point to this chapter as an example of what actual grooming, power imbalances, abuse, and manipulation looks like. Rin deserves better.
