In case it makes you feel better, I also totally missed it being a ship on my first reading.
The fact that the people on the sled were killed by it rather than by some giant sea monster feels so much more tragic to me since it likely was just an unfortunate incident.
Really good chapter. Did I miss a detail with the wind clan where they cant be on the ground? the advisor suggested that it was painful to be on the ground and he lost his sight for awhile, did they go over that?

Supposedly, it has to do with their wind powers. Maybe, in exchange for having them, they can't set foot on the ground, else they'd suffer pain and loss of sight, that can be temporary or permanent, based on how much time they've spent on the ground. I imagine that is the reason for why Aki asked for wood and nets: he's probably going to build some kind of sled with a perch for the wind guy to come with them.
