I think platonic romances like Smoke and Honey can be cute. Where its an innocent First Love, with the understanding that nothing will happen until she's older. When it's CLAMP type romances where they're actually going out, is when it's weird.

I agree!!! I'm optimistic about this series because the story has been really nice so far, doesn't approach obviously uncomfortable territory.

TO BE FAIR though. This isn't the same level of childcare slice-of-life drama with father-daughter relationship as Usagi Drop.

Spoiler: Final Volume Convo + Not Major Spoilers

Since the beginning Tsubaki has a childhood crush on Haruichi, though he shows no romantic interest in her as her hired guardian, and in relative terms he spends a fairly short amount of time with her. I won't spoil any of the unrelated major drama or story beats near the end, that's a totally separate matter. But there is a time skip and hints at romantic interest. As you can see by the final volume cover totally spoiling this aspect.
