Ayano in that volume cover looks beau—ah let me stop there. Heartthrobs

How far back was that flashback between Isshiki-san and that woman? On page 7 it looks like that's a younger Ayano walking about. Actually I'm sure that's her and the woman with her should be her manager Morioka. After all it was said she's been with Ayako since she debuted.

I think you were trying to say "I love you" Just admit it, bro! You know you want her! Just fucking do it!

If you had payed attention to volume 5 cover you would had noticed that Ayano is not his "type".

You know, this is actually a really interesting story about boundaries and expectations. The sister went ahead and made it creepy, but Ayano is just a young girl with no adult figures in her life. She's a kid who grew up too fast and who doesn't have anyone she can actually trust, and along comes a guy who feels like he's an older brother, or her father, or something like that.

But he's none of those things. She doesn't know how to feel. She loves him, but like... of course she does. He's the only adult figure who has ever tried to pay attention to her, make her comfortable, and get to actually know her. She's been desperate for this sort of thing. He's an adult who actually is there to re-assure her, give her comfort, and make her feel like she's actually got something like a family. Her love is affection for someone who cares, but she has no context to put it in other than what everyone around her talks about. So she sees him a bit like that, too. She's got a crush on her manager, just like how other girls have crushes on their tutors or famous actors.

Meanwhile, Fumi is dealing with some sort of heartbreak, but also genuinely struggling with a difficult thing. He's her manager, thus is trying to keep his professional obligations in line, but he also can tell that... well, she's lonely. She's 13, an only child. Her dad's out of the picture. Her mom's never home. She's constantly busy, constantly working, constantly on guard because she was forced into the spotlight as a child. She has to be careful with who she's seen with. Has to be on guard for all sorts of things, apparently including pedophiles. He sees all that and realizes that she doesn't need another person who's just connected to her because of her occupation.

But he has to be careful, because she's a child. He's an adult. He's her manager. There's a clear power imbalance. He has noticed her clear affection for him but doesn't know how to react in a way that's productive and socially acceptable, and to top it all off, it seems like he's got a genuine trauma around something that recently happened, cause he'll like... freeze and have a panic attack sometimes.

I donno where the story's going. I certainly don't like the sister's idea, even though that's what I've learned to expect out of manga. But there's real meat here in a relationship between a lonely child and an older male figure trying to live up to her confused and uncertain expectations.

Nah it's gotta be the other way around. Both of them are complex characters but if Fumi is the one going on the pursuit then we just end up in unfair power dynamics and it reduces their relationship to just lust. The reason why this story is interesting is because Fumi is torn between his role as a guardian while Ayano probes into his past traumas. Ayano is looking for a parental figure and a safe haven from the constant pressure of everyone's expectations.

The draw of this story is whether love can exist despite such huge setbacks and what form that love will take. Him confessing now would make this no different from any other romcom.

His ex weirdly looks like Ayano, maybe she's Ayano's real mother? Is this going to be an incest pedo story??

Whatever happens, happens. I'm just enjoying the ride. At the end of the day, it's the author's call.

I'm also fully aware what my comment looks like
As someone who made a similar comment, you summed it up well. The thing that's interesting to me about this manga is how Ayano really feels like a kid looking for any sort of adult. She's not "mature for her age," honestly. That giant red flag in the description is kinda wrong. She feels more mature, but that's cause she's been acting her whole dang life and has had to handle everything in the house on her because she has no present parental figures.

But, like... she writes little notes like "how old are you" or "how tall are you" on little pieces of paper and sneaks it into things Fumi has. She gets excited about pictures and immediately frames them and puts them in important places. She pulls his hair to get his attention, gets excited about matching aprons, doodles things... she's a kid. Like any and all of these moments could be put in one of the 'cute daughter' manga and everyone'd be going 'aww how cute,' cause it's clear she's just lonely. She feels like a little sister, or a daughter, or a younger cousin. And if that was the established relationship, nothing would be off at all.

But it's her manager so all of a sudden there's all these questions about what the heck should be happening here. What it means. What it could be, what it should turn into, what any of this all is to everyone involved.
