The irony here is that despite Minori's intentions, she's going to be bringing Isshiki & Ayano closer together, or at least will force them to acknowledge that there's something going on between one another.

It's a very typical development in a lot of romcoms/romdramas: When the status quo is growing stale, a new heel character gets introduced which forces the existing characters to reflect on what they actually want, possibly leading to an ultimatum. Usually the new character threatens to become a love interest/rival to one of the two involved parties, which was implied here, but ultimately shot down (for the time being).

that's so fake when she's dragging her finger against his fingers and he's doing nothing to stop her, pretending not to notice after he grabbed her and told her off for not writing letters to him.

If this manga were written realistically then any guy who behaved like that would have already started fantasising and wanking off about her at night and gotten erect around her when they're alone together. Especially when she's dragging her fingers against his fingers, come on get serious. pretending that he has some super-inactive libido.

That situation isn't sustainable . One of them is going to jump the other's bones.

Is it really? That's the closest I could find based on a censored reference in a Japanese comment on the chapter so I mentioned it to the translator, but I didn't really feel a strong resemblance.
Anyway, do you have any idea what "toge toge zaku zaku" means and why it was chosen to to replace the original words? I guess Minori is being toge toge (thorny)?
