One of the strengths of this manga is that Ayano acts like a kid. She's a lonely kid who has to deal with a lot, and has learned how to behave and shoulder responsibilities, but she's still a kid. Nothing about her love for Isshiki is mature or even close to adult. They're "I wanna be just the right height to kiss him when I grow up" and "we have the same blood type" and "he wrote down how tall he is, oh my god." The things that people peg as Yandere honestly feel more immature. Like here, where she's putting the letter in a plastic bag to preserve its scent. It's like... not gonna work, it's a dumb idea she has. Which is why its played as a joke in the joke chapters in-between.
Cause we've, unfortunately, seen kids falling in love with adults in lots of manga. And the other way around. We know the cursed names, the black speech that should not be spoken. They never felt as innocent and childlike as this. There was a level of attraction and desire for physical intimacy that they had. A feeling of want more than just like. That's not here. She likes him and wants him to be around and is dreaming up a future with him when she's all grown up and pretty and they're a perfect couple. Like a gosh darn kid.

IDK I find it cute. Even if she was older I'd still find it cute. Being attracted to the scent of someone you like at least when girls do it is more often cute then creepy.Freaky kid

The fact that she has good reaction to that letter's scent from that guy is a good sign that they would have a mostly good physical compatibility, if they would go at it assuming they are already grown up and matured if the story allows it whether via time skip kind of ending or otherwise.
