This is the same manga where they brutally murder innocent boys on a daily basis and it's the family where it's implied you get tortured if you step out of line, so it's not really very shocking by comparison. Also, the plan was to break the hypnotism immediately, after which I think it's safe to assume Kaworu can defend herself, being the chainsaw wielding homicidal psycho that she is.
