...Yeah, no. And I don't know how a Japanese-English translator didn't realize what was happening whereas my dumb ass did. Someone ( @mbs357 ) else pointed it out already, I see, but Ayame thought Nagi was saying "suki" to her. And Ayame, being the uncharacteristically pure maiden she is, got flustered thinking Nagi was flirting with her by saying he loves her so suddenly in public.
